CELADON Production

In 1983 Scottie MacLennan
decided to take his experiences as a manager and buyer
for Pier 1 Imports, and branch out, starting his own import
company. CELADON Imports was born. Importing goods mostly
from the United Kingdom, CELADON specialized in clocks,
tea linens, and candles from various British manufacturers. |

Six
months into business Scottie met Lexie Tynan through a
family friend. Lexie had just moved to Canada with his
wife and four children, and was looking to start a new
company. He had previously owned and operated a toy import
business in Ireland, but had moved to Canada as his wife
was (and still is) Canadian, and has a large family here. |
Within the first few
years we began importing small framed prints to
compliment our giftware line. These products were
very popular and seemed to attract a lot more attention
than the other gift products. Unable to find manufacturers
who could supply us with the range of products we
needed, the decision was made to begin manufacturing
our own line of framed prints.
In the first few years the learning curve was steep
as we went through a process of trial and error.
We were seeking the most efficient way to provide
quality framed prints, with tasteful frame and mat
choices, to a range of retailers. In the early days
we seldom went outside the standard sizes of 8x10,
10x12, 11x14 and 16x20, and tended to stick to Victorian
and traditionally themed images.
However, over the years, our range of product has
grown and now includes a selection of several thousand
framed prints, canvas transfers and mirrors. We
are proud to be able to provide a diverse selection
that includes everything from Victorian to Abstract,
Traditional to Contemporary, and many styles in
between. Our designers successfully anticipate changing
trends in the décor industry, creating products
that are fresh-looking and distinct.
Two decades later, CELADON has become a familiar
and reputable name in the Canadian wall décor
industry, with a growing reputation in the United
States. Our partnership has grown to friendship,
and our families have grown closer. Several of our
children have put themselves through University
working at CELADON on summer break and part-time
through the year. We are a true family-run business
and are proud to provide employment for our staff
in an environment based firmly on respect for the
individual and his or her creativity.
In the future we look to expand our business throughout
North America, gaining many new customers and friends
along the way. |
